Fact Sheet
1. ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE: The project will begin on Wednesday, May 23th and end on Saturday, August 4th. These dates are firm. You should plan on arriving May 23rd between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Do not be early or late. You should plan on leaving project between 6:00 AM and 11 AM on August 4th.
Do not plan to leave early or late. Do not plan on arriving early OR leaving project early. Any scheduling conflicts (ie. family weddings) should be communicated to and cleared by project leadership during the application process or at earliest knowledge of a schedule conflict. Please be aware that exceptions are rarely granted.
When you arrive on May 23rd, come directly to the project office at 205 2nd Ave. S., North Myrtle Beach SC 29582. Do not come to project property before 1:00 PM on the 23rd as preparations for your arrive will be me in motion. Do not arrive later than 6:00 PM as first hours of project are very meaningful.
Just as the first hours are meaningful, so are the final hours. Do not plan on leaving the project before 6:00 AM August 4th. You must be off project property by 11:00 AM that day.
2. HOUSING: We will be living in five large beach houses that are divided into separate apartments. The houses are one block from the beach! You will be living with 3‑10 other students, sharing a kitchen and bath. The men and women will be staying in separate housing.
The apartments are small. This is beach housing. Please pack as little as possible. You will likely have two drawers and maybe a foot of hanging space to store your stuff. Bring luggage or duffle bags that can be stored under your bed. The apartments are air conditioned.
3. FOOD: You are responsible for buying and preparing your own food. There will be stoves and refrigerators available for your use and cookware and utensils will be provided. Feel free to bring your own supplies and recipes but remember space is very tight. One meal per week is provided by the project. A couple times per week we will divide into groups for meals.
4. SCHEDULE: The summer will be rewarding, exciting, and fun, but don’t think of it as a vacation! The schedule will be demanding! During the day, you will be expected to work a job 30-44 hours per week. Project activities will be at night and on weekends. These activities will include Bible studies, teaching meetings, evangelism, reflection night, discipleship, more evangelism, and a variety of other project responsibilities. You will be expected to participate in all project activities.
5. JOBS: We have operated this summer project for 39 years and have good contacts with area employers who are prepared to hire project students, but it is still your responsibility to secure your own job. If you are willing to accept responsibility, work hard and aren’t concerned about status, you will find a job. As you think about your job, view it a “ministry location” not just a place to “make some cash.” We pray that you will find a place where you can share Christ’s love with others in a very practical and verbal way.
It is permissible for you to look for a job before the project starts (i.e. April or May), just keep in mind that you may NOT start work before May 30th. Before accepting a job, you need to call project leadership for approval and make sure it fits the following guidelines:
The job cannot conflict with project activities. This means that…
- You can work between the hours of 6:00 AM. and 5:00 PM.
- You may NOT work on Sundays
- You MUST have another day off every week besides Sunday
- You MUST work on Fridays
Sundays are kept free for church and project activities. Staff are not available on Fridays for discipleship, thus we want you to work on Friday. Discipleship appointments are of the highest priority on your day off. No one may work less than 30 or more than 44 hours per week (40 is preferable).
Once you accept a job you are not allowed to quit. Make sure you choose carefully. We have gained tremendous respect in the North Myrtle Beach business community over the years because we have provided dependable, hard working employees.
6. WHAT IS THE SUMMER GOING TO INCLUDE?
The schedule will be very demanding, but incredibly rewarding and developmental for you. Some things you can expect are:
- Solid teaching from the scriptures
- Rich times of prayer
- Opportunities for small group interaction
- Getting an increased vision for the world
- Outstanding training in ministry philosophy and skills
- Leadership training
- Weekly Outreaches

- Men’s and women’s development times
- Practical Training in communicating your faith
- Many opportunities for Evangelism

7. CLOTHES: Plan to bring only those clothes and other items that will be absolutely necessary. Remember to bring some dress clothes for church. Storage space is limited so only include what is needed‑‑ casual clothes, shorts, jeans, etc.
Days are hot and humid (average is in the high 80s, with a record highs in low 100s) but nights can get a bit cool (average is in the high 60s, with record lows in the high 40s). Be prepared with appropriate clothing. Also, include rain gear in your packing list because thunderstorms are common.
8. THINGS TO BRING
- Bible and notebook
- Any discipleship materials you have (this could come in handy after the staff leave)
- A car would be greatly helpful! If you are able to drive, please do. While some jobs are within walking distance most are not and you might want to get away occasionally.
- Bring your bedding. Bring your own pillow, pillow case, blanket and matteress pad (we only provide the mattress). Men bring twin sheets. For women the beds are either twins or doubles. Bring what sheets you can or just buy some new sheets when you arrive.
- Bring bath towels, wash clothes, beach towel, etc.
- Softball glove, sports equipment and clothes for sports (basketball, running, softball, etc…)
- Guitar or other musical instruments
- A suitcase or duffel bag that you can store under your bed.
- Summer, casual clothes, and rain gear. It will be very hot (80’s or 90’s) for the most part, but if it rains it will rain a lot! Please be conservative in your choice of clothing to bring. If it is questionable, please leave it at home. We want to create a honorable environment on the project for everyone, not causing others to stumble.
- Swim attire. Be conservative in your choice of swimwear! Again, we want to honor one another and the Lord with our dress. If it is questionable, leave it at home.
- At least one article of clothing with your school insignia (sweatshirt, t-shirt, etc.)
- Jacket.
- Clothes you can get dirty in.
- Church clothes. Dress on Sunday ranges from “dress casual” to “dressy.” For men that means no jeans, no flip-flops and a nice shirt, and for women skirts, dresses or nice slacks. Think: conservative.
- An alarm clock
- A cell phone.
- You may bring a bike if you want to. Bring a lock as well for it. There is no place inside to store a bike, it must be outside, and there are no guarantees that it will be safe!
- Do not bring your dog, cat, bird or any other kind of pet! There is no room for pets of any kind! Do not bring any candles or appliances as they are a fire hazard.
- We need to warn you: space is limited! You will have at most two drawers in which to put your stuff, and 12 inches of closet space for hanging clothes. Pack light!
9. MAIL: Your mailing address this summer will be:
Your name
Campus Crusade for Christ / Cru
205 2nd Ave. S.
North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582
10. FINANCES: The baseline cost of the project is $2,690. You will be expected to cover this baseline cost upon arrival at project. You can pay the cost of project yourself OR you can raise financial support to cover the baseline cost and additional expenses as noted below.
We strongly encourage you to raise support. It will build your faith as you see God provide. It allows others to be a part of your ministry, and it will enable you to save the money you earn on your job for school, conferences, etc.
Helpful resources for raising support can be found at http://mpd.uscm.org/ and here. You can also ask your local Campus Crusade staff member for information and help. If you do not have a local staff member, please contact the Project Operations Director. You are expected to exercise ‘faith in action’ and do their due diligence in support raising. A vast majority of students who do so ultimately see God provide.

We are very excited about and greatly anticipating the time the Lord has for us together this summer. We will be sharing Jesus Christ on the beach and in the community, being discipled in small groups and teaching meetings, and having a great time doing it all! The summer will be rewarding and exciting.
We won’t pull any punches, the schedule is full and demanding. You will be challenged in your use of time. You will be expected to be fully available, and you will be given responsibilities. You will need to have a teachable attitude and heart for the Lord. Also, you must be in agreement with the direction that God has led Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ and feel comfortable with the evangelistic and discipleship materials we use. Please do not come if you are not in agreement with these things, or if you’re not willing to be stretched.
We wanted to be honest and fair with you concerning what the project will be about this summer. If, after prayerful consideration, you don’t feel that you agree with and intend to comply with what has been mentioned in this letter, then do not accept a position on the project. God has another place of service for you this summer. In coming to the project, it means that you accept and are in compliance with what has been communicated.
We want to assure you that you are going to grow more than you ever have before. You will spend the summer with people who will become more dear to you than you can imagine. Your personal walk with Christ will become deeper, richer, and more intimate. And remember, all of this is to build you as a world changer, not so you can go back to campus and sit on it.
Upon receiving this packet, please send us the sheet entitled “Student Action Needed.” The information on this sheet is vital and it must be postmarked WITHIN TWO weeks of your acceptance, send it to Ward Schmeidel.
We are looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you this summer. Please be in prayer as we begin to see what God will do at North Myrtle Beach, SC 2012.
