As was stated in the Fact Sheet, we have operated this summer project for 39 years and have good contacts with area employers who are prepared to hire project students, but it is still your responsibility to secure your own job.

Over the years, Summer Project students have experienced favor with employers because they have biblical perspective on work. Take a moment and refresh your perspective by checking out these verses: Colossians 3:23; Ephesians 4:28-29; Mark 10:45; Proverbs 14:23; Ecclesiastes 9:10; Proverbs 10:4; Proverbs 12:11; Proverbs 21:25; Proverbs 13:4;

As you look for a job it is important to keep the following items in mind:

Make clear our job guidelines and parameters of work hours and time constraints.

You can work between the hours of 6:00 AM. and 5:00 PM.

You may NOT work on Sundays

You MUST have another day off every week besides Sunday

You MUST work on Fridays

No one may work less than 30 hours or more than 44 (40 is preferable)

Due to orientation, the first day of work will not be before Tuesday May 29th.

Once you accept a job you are not allowed to quit.

Transportation: You are responsible for your own transporation to work. Carpooling might be an option. Keep in mind it take about 20 minutes to walk one mile. You can use an online map to calculate the distance from the project address: 205 2nd Avenue South, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582

We have adjusted the schedule and you can now begin working on Tuesday, May 29th, rather than Wednesday the 30th as is noted in the original fact sheet.

If any doubt about job fitting our guidelines, send an email to Ward.

To access the employer list on this page, you will need the password that has been posted in the facebook group or get it from Ward.

A. The $2,690 includes, among other things, one or two meals per week. It does not cover any transportation costs.

* If you raise the necessary additional support, we can give you up to $660 for food for the summer (This money is distributed as per deim and therefore does not require receipts).

* If you raise the necessary additional support, we can also reimburse you actual travel costs to and from project (ie. if you buy a plane ticket and take a shuttle to the airport, we will reimburse you the cost of the plane ticket and the shuttle fare) (receipts are required for all transactions).

* If you drive a car to project, we can reimburse you up to 14 cents per mile (no receipt is required. We cannot reimburse you for gas, but we can pay you per mile) (ie. for a 2,700 mile round trip travel from Minneapolis to NMB, we could reimburse you a maximum of $378.)

* If you raise the necessary additional support, we can also reimburse you for actual support raising expenses (ie. if you buy stamps and envelopes to mail a newsletter to your supporters, we can reimburse you for the actual postage and envelopes) (receipts are required for all transactions).

* If you wanted to maximize your summer finances, you could shoot to raise about $3,700. See the example breakdown below…

$2,690 Project fee
$85 Support raising expenses
$550 Food / Per Deim
$375 Travel to and from project
$3,700 Total

If someone gives online, the donation should appear in the online Ministry Partner Development Tool. According to reports, it takes seven to ten days after the gift is given to show up. So some patience is required.

For checks sent in through the Regional Office, it takes 15 to 20 days to show up online. It takes this long because of transit time and because the checks need to be processed in the Regional Office and then again at Cru Headquarters. We’d like to streamline the process, but all things considered, this is the best we can do at this time.

We want encourage as many people as possible to drive out to North Myrtle this summer.

Why? Two reasons: 1) Occasionally there will be project function across town from our neighborhood and it is really helpful to have a seat in vehicle for everyone. There will be close to 100 students on project which means we will need between 20 and 30 vehicles depending on the seating capacity of vehicles. 2) Some jobs are within walking distance from our neighborhood, but many are two or three miles away and it sure is nice to car pool to work rather than walk.

So, we’ve set up a rideboard doc within the Facebook Group to make the process easier on for drivers and riders to connect. It’s pretty simple.

Go to the NMB 2012 facebook group >> lick on Docs >> NMB Rideboard >> “Edit Doc”. Add your information to the DRIVER or RIDER list . Click “Save.” Then it’s up to you to communicate with each other and make it work.

We also want to encourage those who ride, to be generous in help drivers to cover the costs associated with having a vehicle.
