This week, we want to walk it out. We want to fix our eyes on Jesus, and run straight towards Him.
Like Peter, we have stepped out of a boat, responding to Christ’s invitation to move towards Him. We walk upon salvation, the promise of grace that proclaims we have been set free from sin. This world and our old selves lie beneath the waves we walk on.
It is so easy to start sinking. It is so easy to forget God’s promises, be distracted by circumstances, or overcome by our sin. We start to drown, and there is nothing that we can do to save ourselves.
But Jesus does not ask us to save ourselves from sinking. We have only to keep our eyes on Him to stay above the water. Hebrews 12:1-3 says “Since then, we are surrounded by so great a crowd of witnesses, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Christ, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, despised the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God“.
Jesus has already saved us. We don’t look at our sin, but at our Savior. With our eyes on Him, we behold the wondrous work of the gospel, and walk it out.
